Job Description

As a Summer camp counselor, you’ll guide and support young people of various age groups in their personal, social, and educational development to help them reach their full potential in society. You will lead team-building exercises for students and ultimately, working to ensure each child develops healthy relationships and make decisions that are right for themselves. During Camp, Camp counselors will help to ensure the safety of children enrolled in the summer program. Youth workers will provide active play, activities (both physical and non-physical), arts and crafts, and positive structure for all campers. Youth Workers will attend various fun and exciting field trips that are scheduled for the 8-week duration of camp. The ages of students range from 5-13 years old so the possibility of working with a preferred age group is likely, however, we will cross-train you to work with children of all ages.

Responsibilities and Duties

  •  Assess the needs of young people to correctly plan and deliver programs related to areas such as health, fitness, smoking, drugs, gangs, violence, relationships and bullying
  • Run Subject-based activities, community/environmental projects, residential activities, outdoor education, and sporting activities
  •  Mentor, support youth all while  encouraging  social inclusion
  •  Attend regular training and development opportunities to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and local policy developments
  •  Undertake administrative tasks
  •  Work with parents and community groups to win support for the improved provision and act as an advocate
  • for young people's interests
  • Internship Qualifications
  •  Student applicants must be currently accepted for or enrolled in, a 2 year-year accredited college,
  •   four-year accredited college or university.
  •  Non-student applicants must at least have a bachelor's degree at the start of the internship with at least one degree in a discipline related to the mission of LCCO.
  •  All applicants must possess a minimum GPA of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale at the time of application (exceptions will be considered with substantial justification).
  •  Interns must be eligible to work in the united states
  •  Experience working with volunteers and youth is preferred but not required
  •  Must have a personal commitment to working with diverse clientele and colleagues

Special Skills

  • Must have strong oral and written communications skills
  •  Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish good relationships with young people and other
  • team members
  •  A sense of adventure and willingness to try new things
  •  Patience, tolerance, and flexibility is a must
  •  The ability to treat young people’s concerns with respect and dignity 
  • Basic knowledge of computers a plus but not required(we will train)
